Enjoy art after dark

Most of the National Art Center, Tokyo’s special exhibitions can be visited until 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Though these evening viewings may sound like they’d attract crowds in a city with a nightlife as vibrant as Tokyo’s, they are in fact some of the most relaxing opportunities for appreciating art, seeing fewer visitors than during the day.

And not only do you get the luxury of having the artworks almost to yourself: the low lighting in the vast entrance lobby and spacious corridors helps make the Center building feel somewhat like a spaceship floating through the darkness outside.

Note that nighttime opening hours may vary. Please see Exhibitions and Events for full details.
