The Art of Portraiture in the Louvre Collections

Overview

Portraiture, designed to capture people’s likenesses, is an artistic genre with an extensive history dating to ancient times. This exhibition, made up of approximately 110 works selected from all eight departments of the Louvre, sheds light on the social role of portraits and various characteristics of the form of Art. From Venetian master Veronese’s unparalleled La Bella Nani, making its first visit to Japan in 27 years, to a mask used to decorate an ancient Egyptian coffin, pictures of monarchs such as Roman emperors and Napoleon, and paintings of gorgeous women and charming children, the exhibition assembles a wealth of highly accomplished portraiture.

Admission (tax included)	General 1,600 yen (Adults), 1,200 yen (College students), 800 yen (High school students) Advance/Group 1,400 yen (Adults), 1,000 yen (College students), 600 yen (High school students) Visitors who are under junior high school students will be admitted for free. Disabled persons (along with the one assistant) will be admitted for free upon presenting the Disabled Person’s Booklet or an equivalent form of government issued ID. Free entrance to the exhibition for high school students from July 14 (Sat.) to July 29 (Sun.), 2018, upon presenting student ID. Advance tickets on sale from March 10 (Sat.) ? May 29 (Tue.), 2018 (sold at the National Art Center, Tokyo only until May 28 (Mon.), 2018). Tickets, both Advance and General, are available through the National Art Center, Tokyo (open days only), the exhibition website (ONLINE TICKETS), and other major ticket agencies. Service charges may apply. (These services are only available in Japanese.) Group tickets (for groups of a minimum of 20 people) can only be purchased at the National Art Center, Tokyo. Reduction (100 yen off) applies to visitors who present the ticket stub of a concurrent exhibition at The National Art Center, Tokyo; Suntory Museum of Art; or Mori Art Museum (Art Triangle Roppongi). Students, faculty and staff, of “Campus Members”, can apply for group discounts.
