14 Plaque: A Concert
Enameling is a decorative technique in which colored glass is fused through firing to the surface of copper or another metal. The central French city of Limoges became a center of enamel production during the Renaissance. This piece comes from the workshop of Léonard Limosin, an artist who executed numerous important commissions for the royal court of France. The enamel painters of Limoges applied and fired successive layers of enamel, allowing them to create stunningly beautiful, multicolored works of art.
