2 Astronomical set, featuring scenes from the Old Testament (The Story of Job and The Story of Lot)

The advancements made in science and art during the Renaissance could be seen in the items people carried while traveling. This small box contains a complete set of instruments used for determining time and direction, including horizontal sundials and compasses. Engraved on the outside of the box are two scenes from the Old Testament. Many objects like this were produced in southern Germany in the latter half of the sixteenth century.
