Opaque Stones

The third and final category is that of “ornamental stones”, also known as “pietre dure” (“hard stones” in the Italian tradition). This includes the opaque gemstones, meaning those that do not allow light to pass through. Turquoise, onyx and lapis lazuli are some of the most well-known examples. Gemstones derived from living organisms, such as coral and mother-of-pearl, are also highly valued in Bvlgari's jewelry creations.
