Precious Green
Bvlgari’s innovative use of color has prompted a reevaluation of the term “precious stones”. Today, the label no longer fits the original context of gemology. In the past, what was considered “precious” varied greatly across cultures.
The best example is the one of green gemstones. Although emeralds are considered precious within Western gemological traditions, stones like peridot and jade were once excluded from this category. Peridot, historically known as “olivine” for its olive-green color, was highly regarded by the ancient Romans. Similarly, jade, which has been treasured across continents—from the Americas to Oceania and especially to Asia—has long been considered one of the most significant gemstones in the world.
