The Creative Collective, CLAMP
CLAMP is a creative collective of four women. Even in the history of manga in Japan, it is rare for more than one person to work together for such a long period, and a group of four is especially uncommon. That aspect alone makes CLAMP's collaborative method very unique.
Nanase Ohkawa writes the story for all of their works, while Satsuki Igarashi, Nekoi, and Mokona are in charge of drawing. When starting a new project, Ohkawa first conceptualizes the story from beginning to end. Then she shares the rough synopsis, character settings, and the tone of the work with the rest of the team. After the serialization begins, Igarashi, Nekoi, and Mokona draw storyboards and create the visuals for the story based on the script prepared by Ohkawa. While the leading artist may change depending on the title, they complete all their work from inking to the finishing touches without the help of assistants.
This is the unique signature style of the creative collective CLAMP that no other manga artists can imitate, developed over the course of 35 years of working together.
