RG VEDA
Serialized in Shinshokan's Sausu and Monthly Wings (1989–1996)
This is CLAMP's commercial debut work for the group, which was already popular in the world of doujinshi, or self-publishing manga. After its one-shot publication in the magazine Sausu, it was serialized in Monthly Wings due to its popularity. In the 1980s, these magazines increasingly hired talented, up-and-coming doujinshi artists. Among works of such artists, RG VEDA is unique in that it is based on an original setting inspired by an ancient Indian scripture, the Rigveda. It has a profound and dramatic story and is characterized by a bold and gorgeous drawing style with an overwhelming presence. A weighty destiny burdens each character, and each relationship is portrayed with intricate detail and intense emotion, establishing this work as the origin of CLAMP and resonating deeply with young readers.
