Profile
CLAMP is a creative collective of four women: Nanase Ohkawa, Satsuki Igarashi, Nekoi, and Mokona.
After gaining prominence through their work in doujinshi, they made their commercial magazine debut in 1989 with RG VEDA in the third issue of Sausu (published by Shinshokan).
They were primarily active in young girls' comic magazines in their early years. They went on to serialize many works that would later be called their masterpieces, such as TOKYO BABYLON and X. With their robust storytelling, skillful composition, captivating characters, and high level of artistry, they have garnered support from a multitude of readers.
The serialization of Magic Knight Rayearth in 1993 in the young girls' comic magazine Nakayosi (published by Kodansha) expanded their fan base. Following this, in 1996, they began the serialization of Cardcaptor Sakura in the same magazine. The anime adaptation was also aired, and the series became a beloved hit worldwide.
Starting with ANGELIC LAYER, which began serialization in 1999 in Monthly Shonen Ace, they expanded into boys' and young men's magazines the following year with Chobits, serialized in Weekly Young Magazine.
In 2003, they began serializing Tsubasa -RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE in Weekly Shonen Magazine and xxxHOLiC in Weekly Young Magazine. These two series have interconnected storylines and were extraordinarily released simultaneously. In 2023, the sequel to Cardcaptor Sakura, Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card, concluded after seven years of serialization.
With nearly 10 simultaneous serializations at times, CLAMP has continued to release manga works spanning a wide range of genres. However, their activities extend beyond manga creation, encompassing book design, illustrations, and picture books, as well as character and costume designs for animations.
They have adopted a unique creative style of producing all their works with just four members, without relying on assistants.
