Overview

This exhibition is a retrospective of Belgian artist René Magritte (1898 -1967), one of the foremost painters of the 20th century. Known as a great master of Surrealism, Magritte achieved a unique artistic style that strongly influenced 20th-century art and design and, even today, continues to fascinate people throughout the world. This will be one of the most comprehensive Magritte exhibitions ever held, and the first such exhibition in Japan since 2002. Through the joint cooperation of the Magritte Museum, which opened in Brussels in 2009 as a part of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, the Magritte Foundation, and the organizers in Japan, the exhibition will feature some 130 works from art museums and private collections in more than ten countries.

  • Visitors who are under junior high school students and disabled people with ID booklets (along with the one attendant) will be admitted for free.
  • Free entrance to the exhibition for high school students from 25th of March to 13th of April, 2015, upon presenting students ID.
  • Advance tickets on sale from December 20 (Sat.), 2014 until March 24 (Tue.), 2015 (only until March 23 at the National Art Center, Tokyo)
  • Group tickets will only be available at the venue and discounts only applicable to groups of 20 people or more.
  • Reduction (100 yen off) applies to visitors who present the ticket stub of a concurrent exhibition at The National Art Ceter, Tokyo, Suntory Museum of Art or Mori Art Museum (Art Triangle Roppongi).
  • For Students, faculty and staff, of “Campus Members”, group discounts apply to purchasing tickets.
