Photocopying Services

We have provided facilities for photocopying from materials in our collection, within copyright laws. Please fill out a photocopy request form and give it to the counter staff. After submitting the form, you may use the coin-operated photocopy machines. Fragile materials may be copied by the staff.

Making an Appointment
1. Search for your desired materials using the National Art Center’s Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).
2. For materials marked with “国新美別館 ○○ (予約)” in the Location column or “予約閲覧” in the Notes column in our OPAC results, click on the material location.
3. This will open the “Appointment page.“ Please refer to English page via Japanese “Appointment page.“  Please read the displayed “Appointment terms and guidelines” text and click the “I agree to these terms” button to accept the terms.
4. This will open the “Appointment system” page. Here you can download the application form and fill in the appropriate information. We will begin processing your appointment after you submit the form via email, or at the Art Library Annex counter. (The email address is shown on the application form.)
Materials Available A total of 5 books and exhibition catalogs
A total of 15 volumes of magazines or journals from a maximumof
5 different titles
Access Limitation Materials marked with “国新美別館 ○○ (予約)” in the Location column and “予約閲覧”in the Notes column in our OPAC results
Photocopier requests until 16:30
Photocopy Limits A total of 50 pages at one time; a total of 100 pages in a single day

Special Collection

In addition to the openly accessible materials, The National Art Center, Tokyo, Art Library makes some materials from its collection available only on a limited basis, for uses such as research. The following categories of materials may be viewed by making an appointment in advance.

Users wishing to use these materials should download and complete the appropriate application form, then send it via post. Processing applications may take additional time during our facillities maintenance days and the year-end and new-year holiday season.
Due to the physical condition of some materials, we may not be able to fulfill all appointment requests. Also, certain materials may require submission of a separate form to request the permission of associated rights holders (a permission request letter).

ANZAÏ Photo Archive
This is a collection of approximately 3,200 photos collected by art documentarian ANZAÏ Shigeo, who has been following contemporary art studios and installations, both in Japan and abroad, with his camera since 1970. For details on the archive, please review the photo list (Japanese Only). (Photo files are not available online to protect copyrights and portrait rights.)
Applying for access
An advance appointment is required. Please complete the appropriate application form and send it via post. Applications must be received at least two weeks prior to the desired appointment date.

  • Please include two preferred appointment dates
  • Up to 20 photos may be requested for a single appointment. No additional requests may be made on the day of the appointment. Please request photos using the “管理番号” (code number) included on the photo list.
  • No photocopies of the photographs may be made, To protect copyrights for the works portrayed and individual portrait rights, photocopying is not allowed.
  • Please follow staff instructions concerning viewing on the day of the appointment.
